Other than to visit relatives, we rarely have reason to visit Lake Las Vegas. And yesterday was no different, or so we thought. We were all set at South Shore Country Club, because it’s easy, consistent, and quiet (all euphemisms for BORING). Part of our party was running late, and we were told that the kitchen was closing at 4:00. We had the impression they stopped seating at 4:00. Well, it was 3:52, and we knew it wasn’t going to happen. So we called an audible and headed to the Village at Lake Las Vegas.
Like many other places, the village is dealing with an economic downturn and the effect it’s having on businesses. The promenades were quiet, and the storefronts were mostly empty. But there was something in the air. We saw signs of hope—nothing glaring or obvious, but a feeling that something great would happen here sooner rather than later.
We decided to have our dinner at an old faithful, Sonrisa Grill! Sonrisa Grill is a Mexican restaurant that has stood the test of time. It not only survived the great recession but thrived. And now it is weathering the current economic disaster that was brought on by the aforementioned COVID pandemic. It’s as if this place operates in a vacuum! Unaware of what’s going on in the world outside its cozy confines.
Other mainstays of the village are:
The Pub, formerly The Auld Dubliner,
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
Bellalinda Gelateria Italiana
Le Cafe du Lac
Mimi & Coco Bistro
Vino Del Lago
These are all going concerns at the village that weathered the economic storm in the same fashion as Sonrisa Grill. They all offer great service, great product, great atmosphere, and are fun to visit in no particular order.
While the Village has a captive audience in Lake Las Vegas’s residence, I’m sure these mom and pop operations would welcome the prospect of serving more people than they are accustomed to serving.
If you live close to or within Lake Las Vegas, we’re sure you’re aware of the splendor of this community. But if you don’t live in the general vicinity, you should plan a trip to experience all the Village at Lake Las Vegas has to offer. You will be glad you did.
